“Celebrating Legacies, Visionaries & Landmarks” AAEF’s Annual Awards Gala
Please join us for a special evening celebrating African American living legends who are working to preserve American history through the lens of the African American experience, and individuals who are connecting youth to African American history through digital and oral storytelling, from Civil War to Civil Rights. Proceeds from the evening will support the African American Experience Fund (AAEF) and provide grants to African American historic sites for student internships, educational programs, youth programs and community events.
Established in 2001, the African American Experience Fund of the National Park Foundation is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the natural, cultural, and historical legacies of African Americans within the national park system. Our national parks encompass exceptional places where racial and civic engagements, confrontational events and court settlements have shaped who we are as a nation, from the Civil War and the 1963 March on Washington to the Selma to Montgomery March and the Brown v. Board of Education case. AAEF is a leading partner of the National Park Service in increasing diversity in our nation’s parks and in developing future generations of African American park stewards. AAEF has contributed more than $1.3 million to these sites over the past 11 years.
